
Wildcats beats Word of Life 3-0 in Women's Volleyball

The Bay Path University volleyball team came away with a dominating 3-0 sweep of the Word of Life Huskies on Wednesday night at the Longmeadow Adult Center.
The Wildcats took the contest 25-8, 25-8, 25-12, hitting .418 as a unit on the evening. On the other side of the net, Word of Life hit -.054 for the match.
Bay Path raced out to a 10-4 lead in the opening set and then put things out of reach with a stretch of 10 straight points, to take a commanding 20-6 lead. A service ace from setter Zomar Betancourt (San Juan, PR) clinched the set.
In the second set Bay Path got rolling early, scoring 12 of the first 13 points. Four of the 12 points came from the service line. The Wildcats continued to dominate the set, clinching it on a kill from Asja Kazic (West Jordan, UT).
The third set was close early, but Bay Path used a stretch of nine straight points, including three aces from Shanayah St Phard (Springfield, MA), to take a 19-8 lead. The Wildcats clinched the match on a block from Victoria Burkovskiy (Southwick, MA) and Anastasiya Tsetsko (Horsham, PA).
In all, 16 Bay Path players saw the court in the match. Offensively, Lilly Kibbe (Ware, MA) led the Wildcats with 10 kills, hitting .471 on the night. Tsetsko added nine kills and just one error to hit .667 and Kazic had five kills on eight swings.
Bay Path finished the night with 24 service aces, led by seven from Tsetsko and five from Gabrielle Cajigas (Springfield, MA). Michelle Santiago (Springfield, MA) dished out 10 assists, while Betancourt added eight.
Defensively, St Phard had six digs, while Santiago added five. Bay Path finished with three blocks.
The Wildcats hit the road for their next two, beginning on Sunday at Vermont State Lyndon. They return home on Saturday, September 21 when they host Westfield State.
