Bay Path Scores Saturday Sweep

 

LONGMEADOW, MA – The Bay Path University volleyball team came away with an impressive 3-0 victory on Saturday afternoon as the Wildcats swept Massachusetts Maritime Academy.

Bay Path took the contest 25-23, 25-20, 25-15 as the Wildcats out hit their opponent, .400 to .041.  The huge offensive performance was paced by Anastaisya Tsetsko (Horsham, PA) who had 18 kills in the three-set win without committing an error.  She took 24 swings overall, hitting .750.

The Wildcats led for much of the afternoon, turning an early 4-2 first set deficit quickly into an 11-6 lead.  Tied at 13-13, Bay Path scored the next six points, including a pair of aces from Lilly Kibbe (Ware, MA). Massachusetts Maritime would come all the way back to take a late 22-21 lead, but Bay Path ended the set on a 4-1 run, capped off on a kill from Victoria Burkovskiy (Southwick, MA).

Bay Path opened a 12-6 lead in the second set, but the Buccaneers tied it up. Tied at 19-19, the Wildcats had another big late run, scoring six of the final seven points, including the last three. A service ace from Beyhan Gonzalez (Patillas, PR) gave Bay Path the commanding 2-0 lead.

The third set was all Wildcats as Bay Path hit .450 as a team in the final set. They opened the set on a 10-4 run and a kill from Kibbe extended the lead to 19-10. A kill from Tsetsko capped off the set and the match.

In addition to Tsetsko's 18 kills, Kibbe chipped in nine kills and Burkoskiy had three. Michelle Santiago (Springfield, MA) had 16 assists, while KyLee Finch (Riverton, UT) added 12.

The Wildcats notched 11 aces as a team, led by four from Gonzalez and three each from Kibbe and Marissa Courchesne (Belchertown, MA).

Defensively, Kibbe and Zyiasia Knighton (Springfield, MA) each had 14 digs, while ZaLeah Gardner (Raymondville, TX) finished with a team-high three blocks.

Bay Path will hit the road for the next six matches, beginning on Tuesday at Lasell University.
