Builders Battle, Fall to Knights on the Road

Builders Battle, Fall to Knights on the Road

IN BRIEF:

Things started well for the Builders when they forced a fumble on the first play from scrimmage. Zurich Scarborough jumped on the ball and the Builders would take over on their own 28 yard line. The following drive resulted in 15 plays and 63 yards but ended with a missed field goal and the Builders would leave empty handed after forcing an early take away. The two teams would go back and fourth until the Knights intercepted Edwards pass and returned it 21 yards for the first score of the game. The Builders found themselves in a 7-0 hole at the end of the 1st quarter.

Akiva Wedge, the Knights leading rusher broke off a 47 yard run for a touchdown to extend the Knight lead to 14-0. The score would remain until halftime and the Builders trailed 14-0 at the break. After a few punts, the Knights found the endzone again and extended their lead to 20-0 after the extra point attempt failed. Early in the 4th quarter Jaivon Walker forced a fumble that was recovered by Tate Newman. The fumble would be the second of the day for the Builder defense and it set up the offense at the SVU 27 yard line. Two plays later, Cole Edwards connected with Justin Lund for a 27 yard touchdown and the Builders were on the board, trailing 20-7.

The Knights would pull away in the 4th and win this game by a score of 40-7. The Builders battled the whole way and were in the game despite the adversity they've faced so far. The Builders would force 3 turnovers through the game to increase their season total to 25. The Builders held the Knights to just 114 yards and 1 score in the 1st half.

Head Coach John Davis had this to say following the game.

"We have many good young football players on this team and they are learning how to fight through adversity with what we have seen this year. I was proud of the way they stuck together and played with passion even though we trailed the whole game," " I know next week is going to be a tremendous challenge with our injury situation but I know guys gone go out and give everything they got for the Apprentice School"

This year's senior class finished with 22 career wins, good enough for 2nd all time in school history. The class of 1983 holds the record with 26 wins.
