Mustangs Walk It Off

Mustangs Walk It Off

Auburn, ME - The Mustangs use late inning heroics to come from behind and walk it off against Bridgton Academy 5-4 in Auburn Monday night.

Despite being down 4-0 after the top of the first, the Mustangs pitching was dominant for the remainder. Trevor Phelps came in relief of Craig Burnett in the third inning to set the tone the rest of the way. The Mustangs pitching did not allow a run after the first inning.

Mason Booker led the CM offense with three hits. Caden Truman and Rolando Rodriguez had key extra base hits in the latter part of the game. Rodriguez had a two run triple in the 7th to cut the Wolverines leads to 4-3. In the next inning, Truman's double that scored Garret Harvey (courtesy runner) tied the game.

In the 9th, Harvey subbed in and led off with a double. Rodriguez then had a bloop shot to shallow right field that hit off the right fielders glove that allowed Harvey to score the game winner.

Burnett, Phelps, Jack Cote and Colton Frisbie shared the pitching duties with Frisbie collecting the win.

"Despite only throwing four innings in relief, Trevor was a man tonight" said head coach Ryan Palmer. "I just wish our offense would have realized they were playing in a baseball game before the 7th inning. Nonetheless, huge win for us tonight. I'm proud of them!"

The Mustangs play at SM on Thursday at 3:30 then travel to Pennsylvania over the weekend to play Penn St Mount Alto and Penn St Brandywine
