Brandywine Competes In PSUAC Crossover Weekend

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State Brandywine volleyball team competed at the Penn State University Athletic Conference Crossover Weekend in State College, dropping all four matches on Saturday and Sunday.

Penn State Fayette 3, Penn State Brandywine 0

Fayette swept the opening match for each team on Saturday.

Rebecca Gonzalez (Clearwater, Fla./Washburn Academy) provided 13 assists and six digs to lead the Lions, while Brandi James (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) and Amanda Floyd (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) both posted five digs.

Hope Coacher (Ardmore, Pa./Haverford) added five kills and Hannah Sarafinas (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) chipped in two aces.

Penn State Mont Alto 3, Penn State Brandywine 2

Brandywine claimed a 2-1 lead by winning the first and third sets, but Mont Alto rallied to win the final two frames and knock off the Lions 3-2.

Gianna Anthony (Newtown Square, Pa./Sacred Heart Academy) set a season high with 20 digs, while Floyd amassed 17 and James also reached double figures with 10 digs. Sarafinas recorded six of Brandywine's 15 blocks and Rikelle Taylor (Nottingham, Pa./Solanco) collected four blocks.

Kira Thorne (Alconbury, England/Alconbury) posted a team-best eight kills, while Sarafinas and Taylor both set down seven kills. Gonzalez and Madison Swenson (Chadds Ford, Pa./Kennett) split the setting duties as Gonzalez recorded 14 assists and Swenson tallied 12.

Penn State DuBois 3, Penn State Brandywine 0

Sunday's action continued for Brandywine as the Lions suffered a sweep at the hands of Penn State DuBois.

James and Sarafinas both tallied four kills, while Gonzalez posted 13 assists. Anthony tallied three of the Lions' five aces and also led the team in digs (13).

James added 10 digs and Floyd registered nine, while Taylor collected six blocks.

Penn State Beaver 3, Penn State Brandywine 0

Brandywine closed out play in State College with a 3-0 defeat against Penn State Beaver.

Anthony again topped all players by accumulating 10 digs and Sarafinas recorded four blocks, while Taylor added three more.

Sarafinas totaled four kills and two aces and Gonzalez dished out 10 assists to aid the offense.

Brandywine will play its first home match of the year Tuesday night against Delaware Valley at 7:00 pm.
