Penn State Scranton Men’s Basketball Falls to Fayette

By: Ross Turetsky, Penn State Scranton Athletics

On an early Saturday afternoon home matinee, the Penn State Scranton men's basketball squad dropped their conference battle against the visiting Penn State Fayette ball club by a score of 84-58. Scranton with the defeat sees their overall record fall to 4-3 and in the all-important league play they are now 1-2, coming off their big 59-51 overtime home conference win the night before against Penn State Beaver.

Fayette got off to a hot start in the contest taking a 12 point, 36-24, advantage into the half-time locker room. In the second half of play, Fayette broke the game wide open against Scranton by outscoring them by 14 points, 48-34, that gave them the 26 point cushion they would enjoy by the game's final whistle.

In the ball game Scranton was held to only one of their players scoring in double digits, as their sophomore big man Marcus Delesline led the way on offense with his stellar low post presence. Delesline notched another double-double, as he scored a game-high 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, to go along with a steal, and a block in his 23 minutes of gritty work. Notable mention also goes to fellow sophomore Jaiden Wiggins who had a solid all-around performance with his eight points, four boards, two steals, and an assist.

Meanwhile on the Fayette side of things, they had three of their players score in double figures, as junior Dasilas Jones, senior Dominic Boring, and sophomore Xavier Boyd set the pace on offense. Jones scored a game-high 27 points on a stalwart 8-12 shooting from the field, to go along with his five rebounds, three assists, and three steals in his quality 35 minutes of action on the floor. Boring tallied 18 points, six boards, four assists, a steal, and connected on four of his twelve attempts from three point land. Boyd put up 14 points, four rebounds, four assists, three steals, a block, and made two out of his four attempts from beyond the arc.

Now head coach Chris Sload and his 4-3 Penn State Scranton basketball squad will look to bounce back after their 10 day Thanksgiving holiday break when they face off on the road against conference rival Penn State York on Tuesday, November 29th, with tip-off scheduled for 8pm. Meanwhile, head coach Andy Hedrick and his Fayette ball club, who are now 5-2 overall and 1-2 in conference play, bouncing back in a big way with their win over Scranton after losing on the road the day before to Penn State Wilkes-Barre 110-77, will next play this Monday, November 21st, at the US Naval Academy before heading into the holiday break.
