MBB gets big win over Greater Allegheny

McKeesport, PA- Men's basketball has huge win over Penn State Greater Allegheny with a last minute basket.

Tuesday night the atmosphere was electric for the back and forth battle between Fayette and Greater Allegheny men's basketball teams. Fayette was playing down a key player in Xavier Boyd, but it didn't seem to phase the competitive edge of the team. The game was tied going into halftime with a score of 48-48. Going into the last 42 seconds of the game with junior Dasilas Jones dribbling up the court, the score remained tied at 95-95. Jones went straight to the basket drawling the foul and making the layup for Fayette, bringing the score to 97-95. Just when fans thought the game had concluded, with 20 seconds left Greater Allegheny managed to steal the ball off the offensive rebound and have a break away layup to once again tie the game at 97-97. There was strong belief with only 20 seconds to go and a tie game that the result would lead to overtime, until Fayette ran a full court play from the baseline, giving Kyle Woods the layup that would result in a miss, with a big play from senior, John Loughrie with a rebound and layup to drawl the foul. With only 18 seconds left John Loughrie goes 1 for 2 at the line. Leaving Greater Allegheny with a lot of time to score, that is until Dasilas Jones stole the ball and was able to drawl the foul with .2 seconds left and go 1 for 2 at the line, giving the final score of 99-97.

Leading for Fayette was Dasilas Jones with 34 points and 8 assists and Torian Jenkins with 23 points and 12 rebounds.

Head Coach Andrew Hedrick had this to say about the exciting win, "It was a big win in the conference. We were short handed with illness and had to fight back with 2 players who fouled out. Kyle Woods and Dom Boring hit big threes down the stretch and John Loughrie hit a clutch free throw. Si Jone scored 34 and Torian Jenkins held his own undersized inside."

The Fayette men's team will have a difficult game ahead, playing PSU York on Friday night, which is currently ranked 1st in the Nation (USCAA Coaches Poll). The game will begin at 8:00 P.M. with livestream coverage beginning at 7:50 P.M.
