SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's soccer team fell short in its home opener 3-1 to the Knights from Northern Essex Community College (NECC) in non-conference action on Wednesday, Sept. 7.

The Knights landed on the scoreboard first inside the 26th minute courtesy of Jonathan Diaz; who connected for his second six minutes later. NECC extended its lead in the beginnings of the second half on an unassisted goal by Sam De Amorim.

Sophomore Laszlo Dorogi (West Boylston, Mass.) used a delivery from sophomore Eriksen Shea (Freeport, Maine) to net his first of the season to bring the deficient to two. With a player advantage and eight minutes remaining in regulation, the Seawolves were unable to continue the makings of a comeback and suffered its second consecutive loss.

SMCC stands 0-2-0 overall; NECC begins its campaign 1-0-0.

Next, the SeaWolves will travel to Warwick, R.I. for a matinee with the Community College of Rhode Island. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
