SMCC Outlasts UNB For Weekend Sweep

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball team made it a weekend sweep with a 61-56 victory over the University of New Brunswick- Saint John on day two of the Can Am tournament.

A 38-point first-half performance provided the home team with a 13-point advantage at the break. UNB closed its deficit to five with 2:25 left in regulation, but SMCC was able to knock down free throws for the remainder to keep its lead intact.

Sophomore captain Thomas Martinotti (Harwinton, Conn.) tallied seven points and nine rebounds in 32 minutes of action. Senior captain DeSean Cromwell (Biddeford, Maine) totaled nine points and five rebounds.

UNB's Raymon Szermerda and Aiden Conners combined for 33 points, each 7-12 from the floor.

The Seawolves extend their win streak to two and get to 2-1 on the year.

Next, SMCC will entertain the Midshipmen from the Naval Academy Preparatory School on Saturday, Nov. 5. Tip-off from The HUB is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
