Penalty kick propels Mont Alto to key conference victory

Penn State Mont Alto quickly bounced back from game-tying goal from Penn State Greater Allegheny in the 85th minute of Saturday's senior day contest to retake the lead on a Thomas Oberholzer converted penalty kick in the 87th minute. Penn State Mont Alto honored its two seniors on Saturday afternoon (Alex Call and Scott Stanko Jr.), as the team kept pace in the PSUAC men's soccer conference playoff race with a huge 3-2 victory.

 

Cameron Downey started the game's scoring in the fourth minute on an assist from Caleb Johnston to put Penn State Greater Allegheny up early 1-0. The rest of the half would remain scoreless until Bryce Kylor scored his first of two goals in the match in the 43rd minute on an unassisted tally.

 

Kylor would push Penn State Mont Alto in the lead 2-1 with his goal on a go ahead pass from teammate Nathaniel Edey in the 69th minute. Penn State Greater Allegheny tied the match in the 85th minute on a goal from Joshua Nealey, assisted by Cameron Downey. 

 

A Greater Allegheny card led to a penalty kick for Mont Alto. Thomas Oberholzer was tasked with the opportunity to take the penalty kick, which he converted on and pushed Mont Alto to a 3-2 lead with three minutes left to play.

 

Scott Stanko Jr. had several outstanding saves during his senior day as he recorded five saves on seven shot attempts. Bryce Kylor paced the Mont Alto attack with three shots on goal for the Nittany Lions.
