Penn State Brandywine Makes it Six Straight PSUAC Men's Soccer Titles

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Most teams don't get tired of winning--their streaks just happen to come to an end because somebody just happens to be better on a given day. For Penn State Brandywine's men's soccer team, that day was not today. Despite their best efforts on a brisk Wednesday night at Panzer Stadium in University Park, Pa., Penn State Lehigh Valley was unable to overcome the giant that Brandywine's men's soccer program has become.

Brandywine captured their sixth straight PSUAC Men's Soccer title, and eighth in the last nine playings of the PSUAC tournament. For the last five of those years, Brandywine has gone unbeaten in PSUAC play.

The champs have not been tested much in the PSUAC in 2022, but Lehigh Valley hung tough to the end. Brandywine's Chris Manful opened the scoring off a blocked shot that rebounded to him. A quick touch around a defender and Manful found the top left part of the net to make it 1-0 less than 10 minutes into the game. That score would hold until the half as Lehigh Valley held Brandywine at bay. But shortly into the second half, Manful found teammate Lex Smith for the only goal of the second half.

Lehigh Valley did have a chance to cut the lead in half in the 71st minute, but Jack Montesdeoca's penalty kick sailed high. Brandywine didn't let up their attack, outshooting Lehigh Valley 14-3 on the night and attempting nine corner kicks.

Brandywine now advances to the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Men's Soccer Division II National Championship Tournament, slated to begin on Friday, November 11 in Virginia Beach, Va. There, the Lions will look to bring home their third national title since 2018.
