SMCC Comes Out Victorious In First-Ever Matchup With YCCC

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – The Seawolves' (5-3) bats got going in the later innings, powering them to a double-digit win over the Hawks from York County Community College (0-4) in the first-ever matchup between the two programs.

First-year Thomas Knott (Winterport, Maine) earned the start on the mound and sophomore Liam Jann (Philadelphia, Pa.) picked up his second win of the fall in two perfect innings of relief. Sophomore Kalin Marum (New South Wales, Australia) also threw two innings with first-years Gabe Aucoin (Bath, Maine), Matt Eugley (Westbrook, Maine) and sophomore Anthony Sayers (Benoni, South Africa) each throwing an inning to round out the eight-inning victory in which the pitching staff let up just three hits total.

The SMCC offense was led by first-year Ryan Thurber's (South Portland, Maine) two hits and four RBI with sophomores Justin Colon (Aguada, Puerto Rico), Derek Hoh (Methuen, Mass.) and Andrew Martin (Dracut, Mass.) and first-year Andrew Nielsen (Merrimack, N.H.) each adding one RBI. Sophomore Gabriel Rivera (Caguas, Puerto Rico) scored on an error in the eighth inning to finish off the evening for the Seawolves.

Coach's Thoughts: "It was great to play YCCC in their first season as a program. Our team played a well-rounded game and we kept mistakes to a minimum, this was one to build off of heading into the weekend." – Head Coach Nic Lops
