BUFFALO, NY - A game that featured nine lead changes and a number of exceptional plays and moments, resulted in a thrilling finish, one that went Bryant & Stratton Buffalo's way. The Bobcats picked up a thrilling 66-65 win over the Point Park Pioneers on Saturday in each team's opening game of the Bobcat Bash. The Pioneers had a chance to win the game in the final seconds but stellar defense by Buffalo and specifically Dakaylah Winfield denied them a final shot before the buzzer.
Senior Kat Kanhoye scored 19 and added nine rebounds and nine assists while fellow senior Oumy Gueye scored 17 off the bench. Junior Chy Isom finished with a team-high 16 rebounds while Tajah Goodman scored 10 points.
B&SC Buffalo led by 10, 37-27 at halftime and extended that lead to as many as 14 in the third quarter, but a furious 17-2 Point Park run during the closing minutes of the third quarter saw them take a brief one-point lead. After regaining the lead in the final seconds of the quarter, Buffalo never relinquished it again, fending off the Pioneers in the fourth. But a late turnover with four seconds left gave Point Park a possession under Buffalo's basket with a chance to win. Taylor Rinn, who led Point Park with 26 points and 18 rebounds, caught inbounds pass in the right corner and tried to drive into the paint but was cut off by Winfield who stayed in front long enough to hear the horn sound.
The win marks the Bobcats' third straight to open the season. They improved to 3-0 despite shooting just 35.2 percent from the floor and attempting just four threes. They did hold the Pioneers to 32.5 percent shooting.
