Knights Spoil Seawolves’ Home Opener

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine– The Seawolves men's basketball team suffered a loss to the non-conference Knights from Northern Essex Community College 57-77 in their home opener at The HUB Thursday, Oct. 27.

SMCC went down by 14 points in the first half as sophomore captain Thomas Martinotti (Harwinton, Conn.) contributed seven points and two assists. The home team started on a 10-3 run to begin the second, but the Knights would go on to outscore SMCC by a six-point margin in the final 20 minutes.

Martinotti led the way for the Seawolves with a double-double effort to include 16 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Bode Meader (Gorham, Maine) poured in 11 points on 3-6 shooting from beyond the arc.

Jeremiah Melendez topped all scorers in the game with 19 points, adding six rebounds and a block to his totals.

SMCC begins its season 0-1.

The action continues when the Seawolves take on Roxbury Community College at Central Maine Community College on the first day of the annual Can Am tournament Saturday, Oct. 29.
