New York men's soccer team uses all-around terrific effort to beat Huskies 5-0, extend winning streak to three matches

The Berkeley College New York men's soccer team continued its recent surge, recording its third victory in a row Wednesday evening by overwhelming the Huskies of Word of Life/Davis by a score of 5-0. The match took place at Aviator Field in Brooklyn, NY. With the victory, the Knights are now 4-3 on the 2019 campaign (1-0 HVIAC).

It was the Knights' veteran cast that truly shined in this one, led primarily by offensive sensation Amadou Sy. The sophomore forward got the scoring started in the 16th minute, as Jean-Gardy Derineau swung a pass right side for Sy, who then tapped the ball into the net to give Berkeley College a 1-0 edge. Later, at 41:37, Sy struck again, this time recording a goal via a Jonathan Russell pass to make it 2-0. Tcharly Verna added the third goal at 43:16. The Knights held a 3-0 advantage at the half.

At 50:57 of the match, Sy netted his third goal of the evening, capitalizing on a beautiful cross pass from Matthew Perreira. That increased Berkeley's lead to a commanding 4-0. Jean-Gardy Derineau capped the scoring for the Knights, blasting home a ball at 84:38 to make it 5-0 in favor of Berkeley. Sy would register the assist on that goal.

Berkeley College goaltender Dario Cruz-Sepulveda recorded his second consecutive shutout. He has now logged 194:01 consecutive minutes without allowing a goal, and his G.A.A. for the 2019 season is now at an impressive 1.00, as he has allowed just seven goals in seven matches.

The Knights out-shot Word of Life/Davis in this one by a count of 16-6. Berkeley College was absolutely flawless on the defensive side in the second half, allowing the Huskies just one registered shot in the final 45 minutes of action.

Berkeley will look to make it four consecutive victories on Saturday afternoon, as the Knights will travel to South Abington Township, PA for a match-up with Summit University. The contest will serve as a rematch of the classic match the two teams played during last season, battling to a 1-1 tie back on October 5, 2018.
