SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. – Penn State Schuylkill Women's Soccer was successful in their season opener against NCAA Division III opponent University of Valley Forge, winning 3-0.
Schuylkill wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as Jesenia Landaverde (Easton, PA / Easton Area) connected with Brittney Holland (Andreas, PA / Lehighton Area) just 17 seconds into the game to secure Schuylkill's first goal of the season. Schuylkill maintained a highly aggressive approach over the next 29 minutes and 43 seconds, attempting eight shots. Their persistence paid off when Grace Fenstermacher (Schuylkill Haven, PA / Nativity BVM) found the back of the net at the 33:04 mark, with an assist from Olivia Dress (Schuylkill Haven, PA / Schuylkill Haven). Schuylkill dominated the first half, ending with 12 shots compared to Valley Forge's two.
Holland set the pace for Schuylkill once again at the start of the second half, netting her second goal of the game at the 49:21 mark. Schuylkill's defense was outstanding throughout the half, holding Valley Forge to zero shots.
