DuBois, PA – CMCC Baseball suffered its second loss of the spring season, falling 13-2 to Penn State DuBois on day two of their Pennsylvania road trip. Brady Vincent had a multiple hit day and Garren Post and Zac Gorman both drove in runs, but the Mustangs could not overcome a slow start after allowing 11 runs in the first three innings.
Things started promisingly in the top of the first when Post, Vincent, and Hayden Durrell loaded the bases with two outs. Gorman drew a walk off starting pitcher Taylor Boland to put Central Maine up 1-0.
The Nittany Lions responded by scoring six times in the bottom half of the inning. Alex Gavlock hit an RBI double and Braylen Corter drove in a run with a bases-loaded single. Bryce Dobson beat out a potential double play to make it 3-1 and two batters later, Ezeck Olinger drew a bases-loaded walk before a sac-fly made it 5-1. Finally, Isaac Tiracorda came home on a double steal attempt with Olinger somehow getting out of a pickle to get safely back to first base.
The Mustangs generated another two-out rally in the second. Brandon Gour and Jake Calver both worked walks to set up Post for an RBI single into right field. That would be all the offense CMCC could muster for the day however, leaving six runners stranded over the next five innings.
Starting pitcher Owen Scott's day ended in the third inning when Penn State Scranton loaded the bases while up 8-2. Lee Robertson came in to pitch the rest of the way, retiring the side in the bottom of the fourth and fifth.
The Nittany Lions did score twice in the sixth to go up by 11, ending the game early when the Mustangs failed to cross the plate in the top of the seventh.Central Maine still has one more stop on its tour of Pennsylvania before returning home. They face Penn State Mont Alto for a doubleheader on Saturday, with game one starting at 1:00 pm.
