MANOR COLLEGE MEN’S SOCCER LOSES TO DELAWARE COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE IN HOME CONTEST

JENKINTOWN, PA—National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III Delaware County Community College (7-7-0) freshman Michael Haley's go-ahead penalty kick goal in the 86th minute helped the Phantoms defeat the seventh-ranked United Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Division I Manor College Blue Jays (7-7-1), 3-2. 

This was Delaware County's first visit to Manor since October 18, 2021. 

Delaware County opened the scoring early in the first half.  Zayzay Sairyon's pass went to freshman Abdul Sheriff around the 18-yard line. Sheriff's shot went into the left side of the net for his tenth goal of the season (9:03).  Sairyon contributed his second assist of the season on Sheriff's goal. The Phantoms' goal ended Manor's scoreless streak at 264:01 without allowing a goal.  Manor tied the match when junior midfielder Kounda Doucoure's (Philadelphia, PA/Benjamin Franklin) initial shot went off of Delaware County freshman goalkeeper Bryam Tierra and Doucoure kicked in his own rebound into the lower right-hand corner of the net for his sixth goal of the season (33:34).  The match was tied at one at halftime.  The Blue Jays outshot the Phantoms in the first half, 10 (four on goal) to four (two on goal).

Manor took its only lead of the match in the second half.  Junior midfielder Shuibe Larabi's (Philadelphia, PA/Science Leadership Academy) pass from the Blue Jays' side of the field went upfield to freshman forward Moussa Cherif (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge).  Cherif's shot from around the 18 went into the middle of the net for his fifth goal of the season and gave Manor a 2-1 lead (64:34).  Larabi contributed his fourth assist of the season on Cherif's goal.  The Phantoms tied the match when freshman Kofil Ohi's pass went upfield to Haley.  Haley's shot from around the 18 went into the right-hand corner of the net for his eighth goal of the season (78:53).  Ohi contributed his fourth assist on Haley's goal.  Delaware County scored the game-winner on Haley's penalty kick that went into the middle of the net for his second goal of this match and his ninth of the season (86:23).  Manor out shot Delaware County in the second half, 20 (11 on goal) to nine (six on goal).  The Blue Jays outshot the Phantoms for the match, 30 (15 on goal) to 13 (eight on goal).  They have allowed single-digit shots on goal 10 times overall (three at home) this season.

The loss broke a two-match overall winning streak.  The loss also broke a nine-match overall series winning streak versus Delaware County.  The Phantoms previously defeated the Blue Jays, 3-2, on September 13, 2014 in Media, Pennsylvania when Manor was a NJCAA Region XIX Division I member. The loss also broke a six-match home series winning streak versus Delaware County.  The Phantoms previously won at Manor on September 26, 2006 when both schools were Eastern Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference (EPCC) members. 

The Blue Jays versus the NJCAA (Since 2021): The Blue Jays are 5-7-0 overall (5-3-0 at home) versus NJCAA schools since 2021.  They are also 4-6-0 overall (4-3-0 at home) versus Region XIX Division III schools since 2021.

Manor at Home (Since 2021): Manor is 2-4-0 at home this season.  They are 16-10-2 since 2021.

Series Record (Since 2021): The Blue Jays are 1-1 overall (1-1-0 at home) versus the Phantoms since 2021.  Between 2012 and 2019, they were 8-1-0 overall (5-0-0 at home) versus Delaware County when the Blue Jays were NJCAA Region XIX Division I members.

Manor as a Nationally-Ranked Team (Since 2021): Manor is 5-6-1 overall (2-3-1 at home) as a nationally-ranked team this season.  They are 8-9-1 overall (2-3-0 at home) since the 2021 season.

Blue Jays tied at Halftime (Since 2021): The Blue Jays are 1-4-1 overall (0-2-0 at home) this season they are tied at halftime.  They are 3-10-2 overall (2-5-1 at home) since 2021.

Next Match: Manor hosts the USCAA Division II Pennsylvania State University-Scranton Nittany Lions (6-6-1) on Wednesday, October 23 at 4 p.m. This is the first meeting between the two schools.  The Blue Jays are 7-2-0 overall (3-1-0 at home) versus the Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) since 2021.  Between 2015 and 2019, Manor was 5-0-1 overall (1-0-1 at home) versus the PSUAC when they were in the NJCAA.
