
The Berkeley College women's basketball team recently split a pair of home games, defeating Bryant & Stratton-Syracuse by a score of 77-70 (1/25), before turning around two days later and falling to Cheyney by a score of 63-58. With that output, the Knights are now 8-9 on the 2024-2025 campaign.
In Berkeley's loss to the Bobcats, the Knights were paced by Ariella Johnson, as she connected on seven of her 14 attempts, including five out of her six launches from downtown, to finish with 21 points. She also collected eight rebounds and dished three assists. Magan Jackson scored 19 points, snatched six boards, and dished three assists. Khya Hough had a fine all-around game, netting 17 points, piling seven dimes, grabbing five rebounds, and swiped two steals, and Maria Negron posted a double-double, finalizing her evening with 10 points and 14 rebounds.
Berkeley College held a slim 33-29 edge at halftime, and outscored Bryant & Stratton-Syracuse 19-18 in the third, and 25-23 in the fourth to account for the seven-point margin of victory.
The hosts earned a conversion rate of 40.5 percent (30-74) for the evening. Berkeley snatched 47 rebounds while dishing 15 assists and tallying two steals.
Jackson paced Berkeley in the Knights' loss to Cheyney, as she tied for the game-high of 18 points while snatching three rebounds and adding three steals, and DeSiraye Sealy scored 12 points while grabbing three rebounds and dishing two assists.
Cheyney led 31-23 at halftime and 49-36 after three quarters. Berkeley College made a late comeback push, but the Wolves were able to hold off the hosts and snatch a five-point win.
The squads had nearly an identical shooting percentage, as the Wolves connected on 32.9 percent of their shots from the floor (23-70), and Berkeley earned a conversion rate of 32.8 percent (21-64). Cheyney held a slim 48-43 edge on the glass, while also holding an 8-7 advantage in assists. The teams tallied 12 steals apiece, and the Wolves won the turnover battle, committing 20 miscues to Berkeley' 21.
The Knights will return to action on Thursday evening, February 6, as Berkeley welcomes Villa Maria to Achievement First Brooklyn High School. Start-time for the NACIA clash is scheduled for 6:00pm.
