Courtney Simpkins Picks Up 1,000th Career Assist in First Conference Match of the Season
Beaver drops first conference match of the season.
Monaca, PA – Penn State Beaver Women's Volleyball hosted Penn State Shenango this afternoon in their first conference match of the season. Beaver was hoping to get their conference play started with a win.
At the start of the first set Shenango came out swinging by taking the first 8 points of the match. As the set went on Beaver was unable to recover from the tough start and only got back to within 9 before losing the set 25-12. After the first set third year setter Courtney Simpkins (Palm Bay, Florida) was recognized for reaching a career milestone 1,000 assists for Penn State Beaver! In the second set Beaver got off to a better start by not allowing Shenango to score more than 3 points in a row until the score was 9-5 in favor of Shenango. Throughout the second set Shenango slowly built a lead before winning the second set 25-14. In the third set Beaver got off to a good start and kept the match very close until Shenango went on a 12-7 run to end the set with a score of 25-16. After the third set Shenango won the match 3-0.
Penn State Beaver Volleyball faces off against Penn State New Kensington on the road in their next match on September 18th at 7:00pm.
