Lions Split Series with Penn State Shenango

Penn State Schuylkill baseball faced Penn State Shenango for a doubleheader on Thursday, coming away with a series split after dropping the first game 3-1 but bouncing back in dominant fashion for an 8-1 victory in Game 2.


Game 1: Penn State Schuylkill 1, Penn State Shenango 3

The opener was a pitching duel, with both teams managing just five hits. Schuylkill starter Braden Collazo (0-1) delivered a solid six-inning performance, striking out five while allowing three earned runs. However, Shenango's Nate Evans (1-0) was even better, going the distance in a complete-game effort, striking out eight while allowing just one run.

Schuylkill's lone run came in the seventh inning when Brenan Adams launched a solo home run to right field. The Lions had opportunities but couldn't break through against Evans, who kept the offense in check. Shenango took the lead in the third with an RBI double and added two more in the fifth on a fielder's choice groundout.

Game 2: Penn State Schuylkill 8, Penn State Shenango 1

Schuylkill bounced back in a big way in the second game, using an offensive explosion and a dominant start from Tristan Baer (1-0) to cruise to an 8-1 win. Baer tossed a complete game, allowing just one unearned run on five hits while striking out five.

The Lions' bats came alive early and often, racking up 13 hits. They plated runs in five different innings, including a three-run fourth to take full control. Owen Zimmerman led the charge, going 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs, while Dan Zimmerman also drove in two runs.

Schuylkill's offense capitalized on Shenango's mistakes, scoring multiple runs off errors and wild pitches. The Lions also showed their speed on the basepaths, swiping three bases in the game.
