Caraopolis, PA ~ The Paul Smith's College men's soccer team lost their two United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Men's Division II Soccer National Tournament games on Friday and Saturday, dropping a heartbreaker to Penn State New Kensington 3-2 before falling to Central Penn 4-0.
On Friday, Liam Curthoys (Rhinebeck, NY) got the Bobcats on the board first in the 6th minute. The Nittany Lions would get the next two in the 17th and 58th minutes before Nick Grover (Batavia, NY) would even it up at 2-2 with an assist going to Curthoys. After Curthoys was sent off on a double yellow in the 81st minute, PSNK capitalized on the man-up and buried the game-winner at the 82:50 mark.
Cazmir Couble (Spofford, NH) made four saves as the Bobcats got into card trouble late. Both Curthoys and Zane Busch (Carthage, NY) were sent off, making it diffucult for Paul Smith's College to mount a comeback.
Saturday's game was more lopsided as the Bobcats were without their offense fulcrum in Curthoys. The Knights scored three goals in seven minutes at 23:44, 26:15, and 30:38 as the Bobcats were on their heels all game They added another in the 76th minute to claim the 4-0 victory and finish the Bobcats' monumental season at the national tournament.
The two losses result in an 11-6-2 final mark for the up-and-coming Bobcats who look to become a perennial powerhouse in both the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) and USCAA.
