Women's Basketball Punches Ticket to USCAA National Tournament
The Bryant & Stratton College women’s basketball team have punched their ticket to the national tournament.
After wrapping up their 12th-straight victory (13 counting the January 26 forfeit by ACPHS), the Bobcats leapt to third in the USCAA DI rankings, up two spots from last week.
The Bobcats’ meteoric rise in the USCAA national rankings has been powered by their incredible second semester winning streak. A streak that began with a double overtime thriller against Carlow and continued with Wednesday’s victory over Corning Community College.
Wednesday’s win over Corning was yet another defensive gem from Sean Knorr’s group. BSC’s 75-49 win featured a dominating first half that saw the Bobcats’ suffocating defense lead to big offensive runs. Bryant & Stratton allowed only 16 points in the first half, leading 39-16 at halftime and yielding single digits in each of the first quarters.
Corning found some footing in the second half, but the damage had been done. Knorr went deep on his bench, with 11 total players seeing action and 10 of the 11 netting points. Kadijah Jones led the way with 17 points and 10 rebounds and Dorian Sharp chipped in 15 points and 15 rebounds along the way. Shanell Glover was dominant in the paint, grabbing 12 offensive rebounds on the day and adding seven points and adding a team-high four assists.
Even with the Red Barons finding a bit more success in the second half, the Bobcats still outscored them 23-11 in the third quarter, taking a 62-27 lead into the final frame.
Now the Bobcats’ focus shifts to the National Tournament, where in they are making their first appearance in their inaugural season. Over their past 12 games, the Bobcats have outscored their opponents 907-671, an average of 75.6 to 55.9. Bryant & Stratton have allowed 60 or more points just three times since January 1 and have held five opponents to 50 points or fewer over that same span.
Their impressive defense will be pivotal in their success at the National Tournament which kicks off on March 11. The USCAA will release official rankings and seeding in the coming days but as of now the Bobcats appear slated to face sixth seed Florida National in the first round.
