Gomez, Domingues Bag a Brace, Beat ACPHS 4-0

Albany, NYJeremiah Gomez and Ivan Domingues both put two goals in the back of the net, one in each half, and the CMCC men's soccer team stayed perfect in YSCC play with a 4-0 win on the road at Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. It was Ivan's fifth multi-goal game of the campaign.

The Mustangs got on the board early in the match. Igor Domingues sent a cross into the box from the left flank in the 7th minute. The ball was partially cleared high into the air and nodded back to the top of the box, right to Jeremiah Gomez. The second-year midfielder took one touch off his thigh before skipping a volley into the back of the net to make it 1-0.

Gomez set up the second goal as well just past the half hour mark. He took the ball away on the right sideline before racing into the box, and was scythed down with a slide tackle from behind. Ivan Domingues stepped up to take the penalty kick and slotted it low into the corner for a 2-0 advantage. The junior forward is now a perfect five-for-five converting from the penalty spot this season.

The Mustangs finished the half with an 11-3 advantage in shots, and would take an additional 11 attempts in the second half to keep the pressure on.

Once again, Gomez made a contribution quickly after the start, this time just three minutes into the half. Stephan Samba found the Old Orchard Beach native in the middle of the pitch and let him go to work. Gomez dribbled past two ACPHS defenders before hammering a shot into the bottom corner past a diving Ryan Herrick. It was the first multi-goal game of the year for the central attacking midfielder and first since his hat trick against SMCC last October.

With two tallies under his belt, Gomez drew a lot of attention for the remainder of the second half and used that to his advantage in the 59th minute. He dribbled across the top of the box, drawing five Panthers to him before picking out Mitch Cameron on the right side of the box. The first-year from England then delivered an inch-perfect pass across the face of goal and onto the foot of Ivan for a tap-in he could hardly miss. It was Ivan's 16th goal of the season and 9th in conference play to make it 4-0.

With still another game left to play in their weekend road trip to New York, the Mustangs made plenty of substitutions down the stretch to keep players fresh. CMCC saw the game out from there to seal the victory. The #1 ranked squad in USCAA Division II men's soccer has now outscored its conference opponents 40-2 on the year.
