Schuylkill Baseball Sweeps Wilkes-Barre to Open Conference Play

Game 1 Recap: Penn State Schuylkill 12, Penn State Wilkes-Barre 4

Schuylkill exploded for 15 hits and plated runs in every inning but the seventh in a 12-4 rout of Wilkes-Barre to kick off the doubleheader.

Owen Shoop earned the win on the mound with 5.2 strong innings, while Brandon Pupek led the offense with a home run, two RBIs, and two stolen bases. RayJay Marmolejos and Owen Zimmerman each ripped a pair of doubles, and the Lions racked up 10 total stolen bases in the game.

Behind dominant pitching and another well-rounded offensive effort, Schuylkill completed the sweep with an 8-2 win in the nightcap.

Braden Collazo and Aidan Barner combined to strike out 11 while allowing just four hits. Roman Cieless continued his hot weekend with a 2-for-3, 3-RBI performance, and Conner Licklider reached base four times and scored three runs to pace the Lions.

With the sweep, Schuylkill starts conference play at 4-0 and improves to 9-5 overall. The Lions outscored Wilkes-Barre 37-9 across the four-game series and will look to keep the momentum rolling into next week's slate.
