Front Royal, VA – In a stunning display of offensive firepower and defensive tenacity, the Christendom College Crusaders took down the WVU Potomac State Catamounts 91-39 in a women's college basketball game that showcased the team's remarkable depth and individual brilliance.
The Crusaders' standout performance came from Mary Pennefather (Sophomore/Manassas, VA), who ended the game with 42 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists, and seven steals. Pennefather was simply unstoppable on both ends of the floor, commanding the tempo and leading her team with a combination of scoring, playmaking, and stifling defense. Her 42-point performance was a testament to her skill and determination, as she relentlessly attacked the basket while also knocking down long-range shots when needed. She added a double-double with rebounds and contributed seven steals, underscoring her defensive prowess.
While Pennefather stole the spotlight, she was far from the only Crusader to shine. Catherine Thomas (Senior/Corpus Christi, TX) was an imposing presence throughout the game, contributing 22 points, five rebounds, five steals, and two assists. Her ability to score in various ways—whether through mid-range shots, drives to the basket, or hustle plays—kept the Catamounts on their heels all evening. Her leadership and versatility were key to Christendom's dominant performance.
Miranda Keller (Senior/Harrisburg, PA) also put together a strong outing with 18 points, 16 rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Keller's rebounding and scoring were critical in controlling the game's flow as she helped the Crusaders build a commanding lead. Her tenacity on the glass and ability to score in the paint made her an essential part of Christendom's well-balanced attack.
As a team, the Crusaders played with great cohesion and intensity, limiting the Catamounts' offensive opportunities while executing their own game plan with precision. The defense was suffocating, forcing numerous turnovers and contesting nearly every shot Potomac State attempted. Offensively, Christendom showed off its depth, sharing the ball effectively and capitalizing on fast-break opportunities.
WVU Potomac State, despite their best efforts, struggled to find any rhythm on offense against the relentless Crusader defense. The Catamounts were held to just 39 points, as they never seemed to be comfortable against the defensive pressure that Christendom applied throughout the game.
With the win, the Crusaders improved their record and made a statement as one of the top teams in the conference. The combination of Pennefather's explosive scoring, Thomas' leadership, and Keller's dominance in the paint gives Christendom a well-rounded and formidable roster as they approach the post-season.
Up Next: the Crusaders hope to carry this momentum into their final regular season game at home against Hagerstown Community College on Wednesday, 2/26 at 6pm.
