HAVERHILL, Mass. – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's volleyball team went on the road to face NJCAA Northern Essex Community College (NECC) on Thursday, Sept. 26.
The Seawolves would take control early, winning the first set 25-11. SMCC extended its lead in the second set, having a game-best 30.4% kill percentage, to go up 2-0 in the match. The third set would feature a great duel as the Knights gave their best performance of the night, but the Seawolves never surrendered securing another win, 25-22.
First-year Meryk Lewellen (Gorham, Maine) led her team in points with nine kills off 20 attempts and 14.5 points. First-year Dalia Nelson (Kennebunk, Maine) connected for nine service aces and 12 digs and Yana Montell (Gardiner, Maine) contributed six aces and 10 assists. The Seawolves totaled an impressive 26 service aces and 24 kills.
SMCC jumps to a perfect 10-0 on the season.
The Seawolves are back in action when they travel to Word of Life Bible Institute (WOLBI) to play in a Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) quad match on Saturday, Sept. 28. SMCC will face WOLBI at 3:00 p.m. followed by Paul Smith's College at 7:00 p.m.
