
SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) Men's Basketball put together a well-rounded performance, defeating the University of Maine-Augusta 69-47 in a Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) matchup at The HUB Athletics Center.
SUMMARY
The Seawolves set the tone early with their defense, holding Maine-Augusta to just 19 first-half points while building a 20-point halftime lead (39-19). Charlie Houghton (Dixfield, Maine) led the charge with a double-double, scoring 15 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Thomas Martinotti (Harwinton, Conn.) added 13 points and five rebounds, while Cole Pulkinen (Hebron, Maine) contributed 12 points, five assists, and four rebounds.
SMCC's bench made key contributions, keeping the UMA offence at bay by forcing tough shots and creating fast break opportunities. The Seawolves shot 42.2% from the field and converted 21 points off UMA's 21 turnovers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Seawolves opened the game with strong defensive play, forcing UMA into tough shots and early turnovers. SMCC's offense, led by Houghton and Pulkinen, combined for 13 first-half points to build the comfortable lead.
In the second half, SMCC continued to control the tempo, extending the gap to as many as 28 points. Julius Silva (Biddeford, Maine) continued to push the momentum on the offensive end knocking down an early three. The Seawolves maintained control on the defensive end as well creating stops to secure the win.
