POTTERSVILLE, N.Y. – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's volleyball team lost their first match of the season, 3-2, against Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) opponent Paul Smith's College (PSC) on Saturday, Sept. 28.
The Bobcats would beat the Seawolves in the first set by a 17-point margin to take control early. The second set featured a back-and-forth battle between the two, but the Bobcats managed to take that one too, 28-26.
SMCC chipped away winning the third set 25-21, gaining momentum into a pivotal fourth set. The Seawolves' best offensive performance would feature a 51.7% kill percentage, helping them even the score and force a fifth set.
The Bobcats ruined the chance of a three-set comeback winning the fifth 15-11.
First-years Meryk Lewellen (Gorham, Maine) and Lillian Andreasen (Gorham, Maine) combined for a total of 30 kills for the Seawolves. First-year Sophia Davis (Wells, Maine) added 25 assists and two service aces, and first-year Yana Montell (Gardiner, Maine) totaled 13 assists and nine digs. SMCC tallied heavy production in five sets to a tune of 50 kills and 43 assists.
