Beaver Men's Soccer Snaps Losing Streak
Beaver ties Christendom in their last match before their first conference game.
Monaca, PA – This afternoon Penn State Beaver Men's Soccer hosted Christendom. Beaver was looking to snap their losing streak before getting into conference play.
In the first half of the match Beaver got caught on their heels early and gave up the first goal only 4 minutes into the game. Beaver was not discouraged by this start and responded well with some sustained attack and solid defensive play. Despite Beaver playing quality soccer Christendom was still able to grab the second goal of the game to go up 2-0. Once again Beaver responded quickly, but this time Robert Chauvenne (Georgetown, PA) was able to put one in the back of the net to bring the score back to withing one only 9 minutes after Christendom scored their second goal. Both teams fought hard for one more, but the first half ended with Christendom leading 2-1.
The second half got off to a hot start for Beaver when the team earned a penalty kick in the second minute of the half. Beaver's Robert Chauvenne (Georgetown, PA) stepped up to take the kick and blasted one passed Christendom's keeper for his and the team's second goal of the game to tie it up. Once the game was tied again both teams wanted the win and were fighting hard for the go-ahead goal. As the match was heating up Christendom's defender George Storey picked up his second yellow card of the game and subsequently got a red card. Beaver played well with the man advantage for the last 25 minutes but was unable to find the goal to separate the teams. Ultimately the match ended in a 2-2 tie, which is an important point for Beaver to pick up before they start conference play.
Penn State Beaver Men's Soccer has their next match tomorrow September 15th at home against Penn State Lehigh Valley at 12:00 pm.
