
Southern Maine CC Seawolves Sweep Great Bay Community College Herons in YSCC Season Opener
Portsmouth, NH – September 5, 2024 – The Southern Maine Community College Seawolves delivered a strong performance in their Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) season opener, defeating the Great Bay Community College Herons 3-0 at Great Bay's home court.
In a match held at 6:00 PM at the Great Bay Community College gymnasium, the Seawolves showcased their resilency with set scores of 25-17, 25-23, and 25-20. The win positions Southern Maine CC as a strong contender early in the season.
Southern Maine CC's offensive strategy was led by standout performances from Anna White and Meryk Lewellen. White contributed 7 kills and 2 blocks, while Lewellen added 6 kills and 3 digs. The Seawolves demonstrated balanced team play with significant contributions across the board, including strong serving from Alana Berube and effective blocking by Elise Kaplan.
On the other side, the Great Bay Community College Herons struggled to find their rhythm, despite notable efforts from Isabella Sherman, who led the team with 3 kills and 7 digs. The Herons' look very good at times, specifically in the 2nd game, taking a 19-11 lead, before eventually falling 23-25. The Herons have a lot of positive take-aways, and will build off this early season effort.
