New Kensington Uses Late Surge to Pull Away from Fayette in PSUAC Baseball Clash
April 13, 2025 — New Kensington, PA — In a back-and-forth battle that saw both squads flash offensive potential and gritty pitching, Penn State New Kensington surged late to earn a 10-3 victory over Penn State Fayette in PSUAC baseball action on Saturday.
After falling behind 3-2 following a productive third inning from Fayette, New Kensington regrouped with lockdown pitching and a steady barrage of base runners to seize control in the middle innings.
The game started with both teams trading blows. Fayette struck in the third inning after an RBI single from Aidan Schnurer and an RBI groundout by Remington Lessman, plating three to take the lead. But New Kensington wasn't rattled.
In the bottom of the fourth, Vaughn Gallicano sparked the rally by stealing home, followed by Nat Greenslet's RBI single to score Caden Rupert, tying the game at 3-3. From that point on, New Kensington took over.
Miguel Garcia, a consistent force at the plate, doubled in Rupert again in the sixth and later scored on a sharp infield single by Jobeth Diaz Osorio, giving New Kensington a 5-3 lead.
The seventh inning sealed the win. After Chris Magnee ripped an RBI single, a wild pitch and a catcher's error plated two more. Diaz Osorio then capped the four-run inning by getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, forcing in Greenslet and making it 10-3.
On the mound, Nathan Mecke was efficient and composed across six strong innings, allowing just three runs on three hits while striking out six. Nat Greenslet closed out the seventh inning to secure the win.
