Bobcats Roll Huskies as Rideout Earns First Win as Head Coach
Pottersville, NY ~ Paul Smith's College women's basketball coach Mercedes Rideout earned her first collegaite win as a head coach on Wednesday night as the Bobcats defeated the Word of Life Bible Institute Huskies 71-21.
"This was a great team win, and everyone contributed to the effort," said Rideout. "We're hitting a tough stretch with six games in ten days, but this gives us some good momentum to start it off strong."
Holly Bagley (Bloomfield, NY) and Jillian York (Largo, FL) both recorded a double-double as Bagley led the way with 29 points and 11 rebounds, followed by York with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Bagley added three assists, four steals, and a block while York had two steals and two assists. It was York's second double-double of the season, the first one also coming against the Huskies in the Bobcats' opening game on November 13th.
"Last night's win was a big one for us - it helped us gain confidence going into two more conference games this weekend," said York.
The Bobcats have two important Yankees Small College Conference (YSCC) matchups as they host NHTI at 7pm on Friday, followed by undefeated Central Maine CC at 12pm on Sunday.
"It feels amazing that every single person on the team contributed to Mercedes' first win as head coach," continued York. "Having her as a coach is helping our program so much... she is so knowledgeable and she wants us to get better at every practice and every game," she added.
Jordan Louis (Crystal, NM) added 15 points as she inches closer to 1,000 career points. The senior guard is just 26 points away from 1,000, and could hit that mark this weekend at home.
DaVyne Johnson (Phoenix, AZ), Carley Simmons (Huevelton, NY), and Finnley Jacobson (Vergennes, VT) also scored for the Bobcats with seven, four, and two points, respectively. Jacobson and Johnson added eight rebounds while Simmons added seven.
The Bobcats sit at 6-7 overall and are in fourth place in the YSCC.
