Monaca, PA – Penn State Beaver Men's Soccer hosted Penn State Scranton this afternoon. This match was both teams' second game in two days and both sides were fighting for a win to finish off a long weekend.
Penn State Scranton came out swinging and grabbed the first goal of the game in the first five minutes. Beaver responded very well defensively and was able to withhold any more goals during Scranton's fantastic start. Once Beaver settled in, they really started to show their quality in the attack creating chance after chance. Beaver scored two goals in rapid succession in the 13th and 15th minute, both scored by Logan Gabriel (Edinburg, PA). The rest of the half featured exciting back and forth action with both teams creating several chances, but both goalies were coming up with huge saves. In the last minute of the first half, Scranton grabbed an equalizer before heading into the locker room. When the teams came out to start the second half, they were both playing much more defensively as both teams were trying to avoid giving up the go-ahead goal and all the momentum. Much of the half was played in the middle of the field until Scranton won a free kick from ten yards outside the box. Scranton executed a creative set piece play and grabbed the all-important third goal for their team to take the lead 3-2 in the 69th minute. Beaver once again responded well for the last twenty minutes of the match and they were able to generate several chances, but ultimately was not able to find the back of the net and ended up losing the match 3-2.
Penn State Beaver Men's Soccer plays their next game at home against Washington Adventist on October 13th at 3:00pm.
