SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's volleyball team suffered only its second loss of the season on Sunday, Oct 6, to USCAA Div. 1 University of Maine at Fort Kent (UMFK).

UMFK went to work right away to win the first two sets, 25-13 and 25-19, to put the Seawolves in a hole. SMCC would respond in the third, beating the visitors by a 7-point margin, to cut the Bengal lead in half. The Seawolves did their best to spark a comeback in the fourth set, but UMFK fended off any late magic.

First-year Yana Montell (Gardiner, Maine) filled the stat sheet landing eight kills, 13 assists, and three service aces to lead her team in points with 12.0. Junior Anna White (Buxton, Maine) and first-year Dalia Nelson (Kennebunk, Maine) played major contributors on the defensive end combining for 32 digs. Rookie Sophia Davis (Wells, Maine) added 14 assists and eight digs.

The Seawolves move to 14-2 on the season.

SMCC will travel to Auburn, Maine on Wednesday, Oct. 9 to complete the regular season series with Central Maine Community College. First serve is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
