Berkeley dominates NCAA Division III member Centenary University 6-0 Wednesday afternoon

The Berkeley College men's soccer team continued to roll on Wednesday afternoon, dominating NCAA Division III member Centenary University by a score of 6-0. The match took place at Frank D. Zaccaria Memorial Park in Woodland Park, NJ. With the victory, the Knights stayed undefeated at home (3-0-1) and improved to 10-2-1 overall. Centenary University slipped to 3-8-1 with the defeat.

The Knights pepped five goals into the net in the opening half. Kareem Davis was responsible for two, with USCAA goal leader Jason DeJesus netting one, as well as veterans Ian Pallardel and Marco DaSilva. Five different Knights registered assists on the goals, including Samuel Gomez, Steven Urbes, DaSilva, Davis, and Gabriel Borges. At the half, Berkeley held a commanding 5-0 advantage.

Berkeley added one more goal in the second session, as DeJesus did what he does best – score. The standout made the most of his penalty kick opportunity, slicing the ball into the right side of the net to put the Knights ahead by a score of 6-0, a score that would hold steady until the final buzzer.

Knights Netminder Victor Batista earned the victory in net, logging 75 shutout minutes and making nine saves in the process. Of those nine saves, he stopped three penalty kicks in an incredible display of determination. Backup goalkeeper Jack Giannini played 15 minutes, not allowing a goal and making two saves. Cyclones goalkeeper Kevin Velasquez took the loss, yielding six goals and making five saves.

Both squads registered 11 shots on the afternoon.

Berkeley College will now have three days off before returning to the pitch on Sunday, as the Knights will take to the road to battle SUNY ESF. Start-time is scheduled for 1:00pm.
