SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's volleyball team became victorious over NJCAA Northern Essex Community College (NECC) in a 3-1 result in its home opener on Tuesday, Sept. 10.
The Seawolves in the first set would take the victory 25-12 over the Knights. In the second, the Seawolves would have great offensive production, landing 14 kills on 24 attempts to take a 2-0 lead. The Knights bounced back in the third set to beat the Seawolves by a four point margin. SMCC would answer by winning the fourth by ten points and landing 11 kills.
Freshman Yana Montell (Gardiner, Maine) totaled the highest score for the Seawolves with 11 kills, 15 assists, and 12 points. Junior Anna White (Buxton, Maine) totaled 10 kills and 11.5 points. Freshman Sophia Davis (Wells, Maine) would contribute 11 assists for the Seawolves.
With the win against the Knights, the Seawolves improved their record to a perfect 3-0 on the season.
The Seawolves get back in Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) action on the road when they face both Paul Smith's College and Word of Life Bible Institute at NHTI on Saturday Sept. 14. Match times in Concord, New Hampshire are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
