Hard Battle Ends In Loss for Beaver During PSUAC Play
Beaver battled Penn State Fayette in a PSUAC Match-up and walked away with another loss.
Monaca, PA - In another PSAUC battle for the Lady Lions the Volleyball team walked away unsuccessful once again. Taking on Penn State Fayette, the team played hard and even took the lead at some points in the match but they couldn't finish through to the end. After improving each set with the following scores, 25-12, 25-19, and 26-24, the Lady Lions weren't able to push far enough to secure a victory for the team. Penn State Fayette is in the top 3 for ranked teams in the USCAA and proved to be a challenge for Beaver but with the improvements in scores through these sets the season is looking to take a positive turn.
Leading the charge for Beaver today was 1st year, Julianna Butler (Franklin, PA) who had 10 kills, 3 service aces, and 2 digs. Butler his for a .286% on the day and played in all 3 sets. 3rd year, Courtney Simpkins (Palm Bay, FL) had 3 kills, 1 service ace, and 6 digs along with an impressive 26 assists. 2nd year, Sofia Perez (Bogota, Colombia) had 8 kills. 6 digs, and hit for a .208%. The team made a lot of great plays today and improved as the sets continuted. Going down 8-1 in the first set, and 8-3 in the second, the team brought the heat in the 3rd set going down 5-2 and tying it up to 5-5, then at one point taking the lead and riding that to a 23-19 lead, while finishing the game 26-24.
The team is currently sitting with a record of 1-9 on the season and 0-3 in conference play. The team's next game is on Tuesday, September 24th when they travel to take on PSUAC competition, Penn State Greater Allegheny at 7pm.
