CORAOPOLIS, PA—Second-seeded Bryant and Stratton College-Syracuse (7-1-1) freshman forward Tyriq Armstrong scored a hat trick and the Bobcat defense held sixth-seeded Manor College (9-9-1) to five overall shots as they shut out the Blue Jays, 4-0, in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Division I Small College National Championship Tournament Pool B match at the Allegheny Health Network Montour Sports Complex.
Syracuse opened the scoring when Armstrong's shot inside the 18-yard line went into the left-hand corner of the net for his fourth goal of the season (15:53). The Bobcats freshman forward Alvaro Carrera-Aguirre head shot went into the right side of the net for his 14th goal of the season (20:05). Armstrong finished off Syracuse's scoring in the first half when his shot outside the 18 went into the middle of the net for his second goal of the match and fifth of the season (22:18). The Bobcats led, 3-0, at halftime. Syracuse outshot Manor in the first half, 16 (seven on goal) to two (one on goal).
The Bobcats scored the only goal in the second half when sophomore defenseman Eric Molefi's pass around the 18 went to Armstrong around the six. Armstrong's shot went into the middle of the net for the hat trick and his sixth goal of the season (53:06). Molefi contributed his seventh of the season on Armstrong's goal. Syracuse outshot Manor in the second half, 14 (three on goal) to three (two on goal). The Bobcats outshot the Blue Jays for the match, 30 (10 on goal) to five (four on goal).
This is the fifth time overall (once at neutral sites) that Manor has been shut out this season.
