Women’s Volleyball finishes road trip with convincing win

ALBANY, N.Y. – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's volleyball team dueled the Panthers of Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (ACPHS) in Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) action on Sunday, Sept. 29.

The Seawolves found success in their offensive tactics spanning the first two sets, beating the Panthers 25-14 and 25-9. ACPHS would cut their deficit in half, securing a third set victory 25-16, to force the Seawolves to play a fourth. SMCC responded by winning the next one in convincing fashion.

Looking at individual performances, first-year Meryk Lewellen (Gorham, Maine) totaled 13 kills and accumulated the highest point total for her team (19.5). Sophomore Elise Kaplan (Cumberland, Maine) rattled off eight kills and 12 digs, while also having the third-highest point total with 9.5 points. First-year Dalia Nelson (Kennebunk, Maine) recorded a season-high 42 digs. 

The Seawolves begin a new win streak and jump to 12-1 overall, 8-1 YSCC.

SMCC returns home to face in-state rival Central Maine Community College (CMCC) in conference play on Wednesday, Oct. 2. First serve inside the HUB Gymnasium is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
