Shenango Advances to Second Round of USCAA National Tournament

Penn State Shenango Women's Basketball avenged a regular season loss to Penn State York with a commanding 69-45 victory in the opening round of the USCAA National Tournament. With this win, Shenango advances to the second round, where they will face Christendom College on March 12th at 6 PM.

The Lions set the tone early, jumping out to a 19-8 lead after the first quarter and maintaining their momentum throughout the game. Shenango dominated the boards, out-rebounding Penn State York 60-33, and their aggressive play in the paint proved to be the difference-maker.

Shar'Da Williamson led the way with a dominant double-double performance, scoring 23 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. This game marked a significant milestone for Williamson, as she scored her 1,000th career point as a Penn State Shenango Lion. She had previously reached the 1,000-point career mark earlier in the season, but this achievement solidified her place in Shenango history.

Hailee Aguinaga also reached an impressive career milestone, securing her 1,000th career point with a 12-point, 10-rebound performance. Aguinaga's efficiency was key, as she shot 5-of-7 from the field and anchored the team's presence inside.

Alli Lewis added 12 points and 4 rebounds, while Jaysina Sellers contributed 10 points and 7 rebounds despite facing defensive pressure throughout the game. Gabrielle King provided a crucial spark off the bench with 5 points and 8 rebounds.

Penn State York struggled to find their rhythm offensively, shooting just 29.5% from the field and 11.8% from three-point range. Delaney Burroughs was a bright spot for York, leading her team with 22 points, but the Lions' stifling defense held the rest of the roster in check.

Shenango's ability to control the tempo and dominate the glass proved too much for Penn State York to overcome. As they prepare to face Christendom College, Wednesday at 6 PM, the Lions will look to build on their momentum and continue their pursuit of a USCAA National Championship.
