NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. – Penn State Schuylkill Women's Soccer defeated PSUAC opponent Penn State New Kensington, 3-2.
After taking five early shots to open Sunday's match, Schuylkill broke through at the 10:55 mark when Zoë Gannon (Leesport, PA / Schuylkill Valley) netted the team's first goal. Despite Schuylkill's aggressive play, New Kensington equalized at 19:51. Schuylkill dominated the opening period, leading 14-6 in shots.
In the second half, Schuylkill extended their lead to 3-1 with goals from Brittney Holland (Andreas, PA / Lehighton Area) and Olivia Dress (Schuylkill Haven, PA / Schuylkill Haven) within five minutes. Although New Kensington managed to score at the 73:49 mark, Schuylkill's defense limited further chances. Schuylkill controlled the game, outshooting New Kensington 27-10 and leading in corner kicks, 13-4.
Schuylkill (5-4-1 overall, 3-1 PSUAC) will travel to NCAA Division III opponent Gwynedd Mercy on Monday, October 7th.
