Penn State Shenango Volleyball (4-8, 3-0) battled hard but fell in straight sets to Carlow University on Monday night, 25-20, 25-20, 25-18. Despite the loss, Shenango showcased some strong individual performances, highlighted by Sydney Ward and Cyra Cross.
Sydney Ward was a bright spot for Shenango, leading the team with seven kills on 14 attempts for a solid .357 hitting percentage. Ward also added a service ace and four digs, contributing 8.0 total points. Cyra Cross had a busy night, tallying six kills and 23 digs, demonstrating her all-around versatility. She tied with Ward in kills while matching her in points with 6.0. Senior setter Carla Ramirez Ortiz led the playmaking efforts, dishing out 14 assists and adding 11 digs. Jill Dunleavy and Jade Shattuck also made notable contributions. Dunleavy recorded six kills and added 7.0 points for the team, while Shattuck chipped in three kills, a service ace, and 4.0 points in the losing effort.
Penn State Shenango will look to bounce back on Wednesday night at 7PM when they face Penn State Fayette in a pivotal match for first place in the PSUAC West. With their 3-0 conference record on the line, Shenango will need to regroup quickly for what promises to be an exciting battle.
