POTTERSVILLE, N.Y. – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's soccer team suffered their first conference loss of the season, 2-1, at Word of Life Bible Institute (WOLBI) on Saturday, Sept. 28.

The Huskies would strike first in the 18th minute when Joseph Matthews delivered his team a goal on a delivery from Cyleek Zaimoff. The Huskies scored the lone goal of the half, leading them to a 1-0 lead going into halftime.

Matthews made it a two-goal game with another at the 79th minute on an assist from Daniel Ibanez. SMCC would try to spark a comeback by cutting their deficit in half in the 89th minute when sophomore Giovani Lopez (Casco, Maine) lined up a long range blast for his first goal of the season. The Seawolves would be unable to find another scoring opportunity in the final minute, resulting in a 2-1 loss.

WOLBI's goalkeeper, Raphael Cournoyer, totaled 12 saves; his SMCC counterpart, Ian Allen (Avon, Maine) tallied four saves.

The Seawolves fell to 4-3 on the season, 2-1 in Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) play.
