
SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball team secured a well-earned 75-57 victory over Washington County Community College on Saturday afternoon, with senior Thomas Martinotti (Portland, Maine) reaching a career milestone by scoring his 1,000th career point early in the first half.
SUMMARY
The Seawolves delivered a strong team performance, shooting 42.0% from the field and out-rebounding their opponent 50-33. Martinotti led the charge with 19 points, three assists, and six rebounds, while Charlie Houghton (Hudson, Maine) dominated inside with 18 points, leading the rebounding effort, pulling down 20 boards. Nathan Mugisha (Auburn, Maine) provided a great energy, adding 14 points and six rebounds on an efficient 6-7 shooting.
SMCC had a balanced attack from Julius Silva (Manchester, N.H.), who knocked down two three-pointers, and Cole Pulkinen (Topsham, Maine), who added seven points and three assists.
MARTINOTTI HITS 1,000-POINT MILESTONE
With 13:15 remaining in the first half, Martinotti made history, driving to the hoop for a layup that put him in the 1,000-point club as the 21st player in program history to achieve the milestone. His bucket made it a 10-4 game in favor of SMCC, setting the tone for the Seawolves' performance.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Seawolves jumped out to an early lead, finishing the first half up 38-29, fueled by Martinotti's milestone moment and a strong inside presence from Houghton. SMCC's defensive intensity forced 7 turnovers, converting them into 12 points.
Washington County CC made a brief push in the second half, but SMCC responded with a 47.1% shooting performance in the final 20 minutes, including clutch three-pointers from Martinotti and Mugisha to put the game out of reach. The Seawolves' 42.9% shooting from beyond the arc helped keep momentum on their side.
