SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's soccer team faced its in-state rival Central Maine Community College (CMCC) at Wainwright Sports Complex on Thursday, Oct. 17.
The Mustangs would open the scoring in the 34th minute when Mitch Cameron buried a shot off an assist from Ivan Domingues. The Seawolves' attack accumulated five shots in the first half, but to no avail.
At the 48th minute, CMCC doubled their lead when Jeremiah Gomez put one side netting on another ball from I. Domingues. The Seawolves made a tactical change and started to increase their offensive attack in the second half by doubling the amount of shots they had in the first. SMCC was not able to begin a comeback against the tenacious Mustang defense.
The Mustangs goalkeeper, Cody Cleaveland handled 12 saves. The SMCC goalkeeper duo of Ian Allen (Avon, Maine) and Mohammed Turki (Portland, Maine) combined for a total of four saves, each conceding a goal.
The result moves SMCC to 7-7 on the season, 5-3 in conference play.
The men play their final regular season game on the road when they face the Moose of the University of Maine at Augusta on Saturday, Oct. 19. Kickoff at the CARA Fields Complex in Augusta, Maine is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
