Baseball Drops Two in Spring Training to SUNY Canton
Spring Training Games continue as Baseball drops two games to SUNY Canton 7-4 and 16-11.
Myrtle Beach, SC - Today the Baseball team took on SUNY Canton in day 4 of their Spring Training Trip! The team finised 0-2 on the day but the bats were hot scoring 15 runs between the two games. The team battled keeping both games close but couldn't finish through the 7th. Ending with a score of 7-4 in the first game doesn't show the heart the team played with. Goin gup 2-1 early and then battling to come back with 2 more runs the team is make huge strides towards their goals for conference play later this season. The second game ended with a score of 16-11, with both teams scoring 4 in the 1st inning. SUNY Canton took an early lead scoring 2 in both the 2nd and 3rd inning, while Beaver tied it back up by scoring 4 in the bottom of the 3rd. Beaver would take the lead by 1 in the 4th and that would finished the scoring for Beaver in game two. Beaver had 14 hits between the two games scoring 15 runs.
In game one the team was led by Third-year, Christopher Cann (Selden, NY) who had 1 hit which was a double, 1 RBI, and scored 1 run. Getting the teams other 2 hits this game was Fourth-year, Aaron Stribling (Hainesport, NJ) and First-year, Mason Hsu (Tainan City, Twaiwan). The team also had an impressive 9 walks this game. Third-year, Nathan Doutt (Edinboro, PA) had 3 walks and 2 RBI's, while, Second-year, Ryan Coulombe (Easton, PA) and Hsu both had 2 walks. Starting on the mound for Beaver was First-year, Nicholas Hayes (Punta Gorda, FL) who went 3.2 innings, giving up 4 hits, 1 walk, 6 runs, and had 3 strikouts. Coming i relief for Beaver was First-year, Rheece Barone (Oakdale, PA) who threw the remaining 2.1 innings giving up 2 hits and 1 run.
Game two was much higer in scoring for both teams finishing 16-11 whith Beaver having 8 hits in this game. Leading the team this game was Third-year, Nicholas Campbell (Lewes, DE) who had 2 hits, 2 walks, scored 1 run, and had 3 RBI's. First-year, Benjamin Ogle (East Berlin, PA) had 2 hits, with 2 walks, scored 1 run, and had 1 RBI. The other 4 hits came from Second-year, Jake Burke (Lakeport, CA), Second-year, Justin Lambert (Urhichsville, OH), First-year, Andres Molinar (Long Beach, CA), and First-year, Emmet McCowin (Hopewell, PA). The team had 11 runs, 8 hits, 9 REBI's 7 walks, and only 3 strikeouts for the game. Campbell and Ogle both hit a double this game and McCowin hit a triple to help the team. Lambert had 2 stolen bases as well. On the mound for Beaver was Second-year, Cayden Jacobs (Rochester, PA) who gave up 1 hit and 4 runs. Coming in relief for Jacobs was Hsu who went 2 innings, giving up 5 hits and 3 runs. Next up for Beaver was Second-year, Ian Butler (Stafford, VA) who threw 3 innings, giving up 6 hits, 6 runs, and striking out 1. In relief again was McCowin who threw 1 inning with 2 hits,, 1 run, and 1 stikeout. The final pitcher for Beaver was Ogle who completed the last inning giving up 2 hits, 2 runs, and striking out 1.
Penn State Beaver Baseball is now 0-7 overall and will have 3 more games during Spring Training. The Baseball team take the field again on Wednesday, March 12th at 10:00am when they take on Gevena College at the Cal Ripken Experience.
