Auburn, ME ~ The Paul Smith's College men's soccer team ended their conference play in the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) championship game on Sunday, November 3rd, falling to Central Maine CC 5-1.
The Bobcats earned a berth in the YSCC final with a win against Word of Life Bible Institute (WOLBI) on Saturday, beating the Huskies 3-2 in a monumental second-half comeback.
After going down 2-0 just 10 minutes into the game, the Bobcats regrouped and started pressing the attack in the YSCC semi-final. Nick Grover (Batavia, NY) got things started in the 65th minute as Liam Curthoys (Rhinebeck, NY) picked up his first of two assists on the day. Less than a minute later Junior back Kagan Hance (Chester, VT) would tie it up on another nice pass from Curthoys to level it at 2-2. Grover would smash a perfectly delivered header from Zane Busch (Carthage, NY) into the back of the WOLBI net in 85th minute to secure the victory and move the Bobcats into the championship game.
Sunday's YSCC final was 2-1 at the half, but the offensive prowess of the Mustangs was too much for the Bobcats to handle as they pulled away to a 5-1 victory. Senior Adam Holt (Spencerport, NY) scored the lone goal for the Bobcats as they finished their season with a 11-3-2 record, the best campaign for the program in years.
Four members of the team earned conference accolades as Cazmir Couble (Spofford, NH) was named Defensive Player of the Tournament for his stellar play in net. Nick Grover and Liam Curthoys were named YSCC All-Conference while Kagan Hance picked up a YSCC Honorable Mention.
