Baseball Loses Close Matchup To King's College

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Penn State Schuylkill Baseball lost a close matchup to NCAA Division III opponent King's College on Wednesday, falling 9-8 in nine innings.

A triple by Chase Herb (Hegins, PA / Tri-Valley) at the top of the 3rd inning drove in a Ryan Jarboe (Pottsville, PA / Pottsville) run, the first run of the contest for either team. Schuylkill extended their lead to 2-0 plays later on a ground ball. A Owen Zimmerman (Hamburg, PA / Hamburg) triple to left center at the top of the 5th inning extended Schuylkill's lead to 4-0.

King's took control of the contest as four hits and an error at the bottom of the 6th inning led to six runs. A single at the bottom of the 7th extended their lead to 7-4.

Schuylkill would not lay down as a single by Evan Kosar (Shenandoah / Shenandoah Valley), and doubles by Jarboe and Herb gave Schuylkill three runs and tied the contest at the top of the eighth. A double by Zimmerman plays later drove in a Herb run and gave Schuylkill an 8-7 lead heading into the 9th inning.

A King's homerun to begin the bottom of the 9th tied the game at 8 a piece. With two outs during the 9th inning, King's singled to the right side, driving in their final run of the contest as they went on to defeat Schuylkill.

Herb went 4-4 at bat and tallied 3 RBIs. Zimmerman tallied 2 hits and 4 RBIs.

Schuylkill (16-9 overall, 11-5 PSUAC) will compete in their final game of the regular season on Sunday, April 22nd, as they take on Penn State Wilkes-Barre in what will be their Senior Day. The first pitch is at 12:00 p.m. followed by a 2:00 p.m. start.
