Brandywine Rallies To Earn Weekend Split

ASTON, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine scored five of the game's final six runs to defeat Rosemont as the Lions overcame a three-run deficit and knocked off the Ravens 6-5 on Sunday afternoon at Maple Zone.

Nick Wright's (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) two-out, RBI double scored Toby Skeans (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) with what proved to be the game-winning run during the top of the eighth inning. Skeans walked with one out and moved into scoring position by stealing second base.

Trailing 4-1 in the fourth inning, Brandywine cut into the deficit when Ryan Brown (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) singled in Shawn Webb (Drexel Hill, Pa./Bonner-Prendie). Skeans' groundout two innings later allowed Mike DeGirolamo (Frederick, Md./Frederick) to score, making the count 4-3.

Brandywine took the lead for the first time on the day in the seventh inning. Wright reached on an error and Evan Abegg (Commerce City, Colo./Prairie View) worked a walk to put two runners on for DeGirolamo, who lined a two-run double to center.

The Ravens answered with a two-out run during the bottom of the seventh before Wright gave Brandywine the lead for good in the eighth.

Rosemont put together a ninth inning rally against Ryan Snyder (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley), but Webb, Wright and Max Tavarez (Woodbridge, N.J./Woodbridge) combined to throw a runner out of the plate. Two batters later, Snyder got a bases-loaded groundout to third to end the frame and earn the save during his first collegiate appearance on the mound.

Matt Brucato (Jamesburg, N.J./Monroe Township) claimed the win after tossing 1.1 hitless innings of relief. Jaylen Bryant (Brooklyn, N.Y./High School of Telecommunications) pitched the first 2.1 innings, striking out three, while Abel Bartosek (Fort Worth, Texas./Chisholm Trail) went 4.1 frames, fanning two.

DeGirolamo produced three hits and drove in two runs, while Webb tallied two hits and Wright knocked in a pair.

Brandywine (1-1) returns to Maple Zone Saturday to host Marywood at 1:00 PM.
